Supported formats and limits
Native PHAR archives can contain uncompressed or deflate-compressed files. Stored and deflate ZIP files are supported. BZip2, ZIP64, encrypted archives and tar-based PHAR files are not supported.
The converter checks file sizes and CRC32. It verifies supported PHAR signatures and creates a SHA-256 signature for new PHAR files. These integrity checks do not establish who created an archive.
Conversion preserves file contents and paths. It does not preserve the original PHP stub, alias, serialized metadata, permissions or signature. A new PHAR is a file container, not a replacement executable for the original application.
Safe processing limits are 2,000 entries, 16 MB per expanded file and 32 MB of expanded data. Very highly compressed entries are rejected. Empty directories are omitted.
